The Point at Clinton Lake

A civic amphitheater at The Point.

The work ahead begins with study and planning.

The project has been part of the City’s 2027–2031 capital improvement planning discussions. Construction approval and construction funding remain ahead.

Our next priority is a special-use and feasibility study to examine demand, appropriate venue scale, site access, operating needs, costs, and approval requirements. GPEAP’s proposed study fundraising goal is $150,000, subject to an agreed scope and cost estimate.

Sesquicentennial Point Park offers a natural setting overlooking Clinton Lake and the Wakarusa River Valley. GPEAP is working to advance the vision for a permanent public outdoor stage where people could gather for concerts, theater, dance, school performances, graduations, festivals, and civic celebrations.

The proposal builds on a long-standing community vision. Our role is to organize community support and fundraising while working toward a clear planning relationship with the City of Lawrence.

Room for many kinds of community life.
A public outdoor performance space could serve artists, schools, nonprofit organizations, and community groups across generations. Our aim is to help establish what is practical, what the community needs, and how a future venue could be supported responsibly.

[Editor note: For concept artwork, use the caption “Concept illustration of a possible future amphitheater. Final design, capacity, funding, and approvals remain to be determined.” Do not describe the venue as built, funded, approved for construction, or open for booking. Route study-support inquiries to the nonprofit email; do not imply that the general Donorbox link creates a restricted study donation.]
